T.A.P. Teenage After-School Program), located at 435 Mail Street in Paterson, New Jersey, is an after-school and all-day Summer Program for 15 inner city youth. A safe, supervised environment is provided with a multi-cultural staff representative of the youth served. Recreation, nutrition, social interaction, academic enhancement (tutoring), life skills and pre employment are the core of activities in which the youth participate on a daily basis. Other components throughout the year are: weekly group counseling with a family therapist, educational services (in-house workshops), cultural events, guest speakers, sports/physical events, and individual play activities. Volunteerism is encouraged as youth are given the opportunity to be helpers in child care programs. The goal of T.A.P. is to train teens to act as peer counselors, and to be productive citizens. Referrals are taken from the following sources: Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), schools, parents and self-referrals Sources of funding include: New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Youth and Family Services, and fundraising (youth/family and staff). T.A.P. operates year-round. The after-school program runs Monday thru Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (September thru June), and the summer program runs Monday thru Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (During July and August.). |
