A Child’s World located at 433 Main Street in Paterson, New Jersey, opened its doors in 1974. The Child Care Program provides quality child care to 85 Multi-ethnic children from primarily low income families in Paterson and Passaic County. With the purpose of: “Helping people help themselves”, those children whose parents are working part/full time, or are enrolled in school/training programs are eligible for priority placement at the day care which operates year-round from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program’s pre-school curriculum is implemented by a head teacher, and a bilingual staff. Licensed through the New Jersey Department of Human Services, program activities include: developing coordination skills, developing listening and verbal skills, introduction to reading awareness, roll playing, supervised field trips, arts and crafts, and music. Referrals are taken from the following sources: Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), Passaic County Child Care Coordinating Agency (4C’s), local churches and self-referred. Sources of Funding include: public funds—division of Family Development, Paterson board of Education, parent fees/sliding fee scale, fund raising (staff and parent participation), city of Paterson matching funds and donations. Supplementary services provide by the day care are: meal service (breakfast, lunch and p.m. supplement); lead poisoning testing; and a family therapist. |
