A Child’s Time located at 435 Mail Street, in Paterson, New Jersey, began operation in 1986. The program provides kindergarten curriculum and quality child care to 42 multi-ethnic children from primarily low income families in Paterson and Passaic County. A Child’s Time is an all day kindergarten. The program evolved in response to the needs of the working parents in our pre-school programs a Child’s Word and A World of Colors. Those children whose parents are working part/full time, or are enrolled in school/training programs are eligible for priority placement at the kindergarten, which runs from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. year-round. Licensed through the New Jersey Department of Human Services, the program’s kindergarten curriculum is implemented by a head teacher. The curriculum is geared to provide a safe, healthy environment where children engage in activities to enhance their emotional, social, motor and cognitive skills. Referrals are taken from the following services: Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), 4C’s, parents, and other community based pre-schools. Sources of funding include: public funds – Division of Family Development, parent fees/sliding fee scale, and fund raising (Staff and parent participation). Supplementary services provided by the program are: meal service (breakfast, lunch and p.m. supplement); and a family therapist.
