The After School and Summer Camp child Care Program has been providing quality child care, to multi-ethnic children, ages 6-11, since 1974. The “Latch Key” child, the child “at Risk” – has, and continues to receive priority placement in the program. Children of working poor families, parents in school or training programs, and protective service clients (child abuse and neglect prevention) are eligible for placement in the program, which primarily serves the residents of Paterson, in Passaic County. Licensed through the New Jersey State Department of Human Services, program activities include: educational tutoring, cultural enrichment, educational workshops (on child safety, substance abuse and first aid), recreational activities, supervised field trips, physical education, and guest speakers. Referrals are taken from the following sources: Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), the R.E.A.C.H Program (Welfare Reform), schools and parents. Sources of funding include: public funds – Division of Family Development, parent fees (sliding fee scale), fund raising (staff and parent participation), grants, and special seasonal contributions. Supplementary Services provided by the program are round trip transportation for programs participants (to and from the Community Center); meal service (during After School hours dinner and a p.m. supplement are provided – during Summer Camp breakfast, lunch and a p.m. supplement are provided); and a family therapist. The After School Program runs Monday thru Friday from 2:30p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (September thru June), The Summer Camps runs Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (during July and August).
