“...providing help - creating hope…”

The center is an emergency shelter and group home for runaway, homeless and abused young men ages 11-17. The goal of the program is to reunite youth and families through counseling and service linkages. The program provides a comprehensive range of services including residential care, counseling, case management, life skills education, recreation, transportation, crisis intervention, hotline counseling, advocacy and referrals.

Started in May 2000, Passaic Teen Center has been a temporary home for youth who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Our goal is to help all youth to begin to solve the problems in their lives and to make positive decisions about their behavior and the way they live their lives. For residents, this means that we will help them in any way we can to resolve what is happening to them and to help them make choices that are positive and will make them feel good about themselves. The residents can expect guidelines for their actions and behaviors. We provide them with healthy food, a safe, comfortable home and a pleasant, friendly atmosphere.

Passaic Teen Center has the capacity to provide service to 14 young men, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Our ultimate goal is family reunification. If family reunification is not possible, we prepare our residents for alternative living situations. In any case, we teach the life skills needed to help these young men on the path to a successful adulthood.

Our Center is staffed by counselors trained in behavior modification, anger management and crisis intervention as well as diversity training, suicide prevention and environmental sanitation/communicable disease training. Each staff member also receives training on the Center's policies and procedures regarding the residents and personnel guidelines.

Passaic Teen Center is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, the Division of Youth and Family Services and tax-deductible donations. No parental fees are required. The program utilizes supplemental counseling and medical community resources.
